Business Development Services

We are an organization dedicated to helping businesses grow and meet their potential.  This may involve managing existing internal resources for improved performance or managing activities involving third parties, such as strategic acquisitions, partnering, spinouts or business transfers.

We will assist you to develop successful business models, strategies and detailed plans and, unlike a consulting company, BDA personnel will stay directly involved in implementing the plan where this is required to ensure success. We will be your interim CEO, or on-going Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) or we will simply manage a specific transaction for you.

Our staff brings exceptional experience and competencies to bear on your business; a level of experience that is often too costly to justify in a full time position. Our support is cost effective because you only pay for the time required for the specific activity and we can provide different individuals and different competencies as may be required.

Interim and Temporary CEO and CBDO
BDA staff often act as CEOs for start-up companies or under emergency situations.  We will also direct business development activities as if we were part of your management team.  This service provides senior support on a cost effective basis.

Fee Structure

The fees for this service are generally paid on a per diem basis and the actual amount will vary according to the specific activities and conditions and length of time for the assignment.   For projects focused on specific, defined deal outcomes (funding, acquisitions, business formation, transfers, etc.) BDA will often reduce its per diem fees and receive a percentage of the deal value upon completion.

Project examples

  1. Working on behalf of a technology development company to establish a new entity to take a new consumer personal care product to market.
  2. Supporting a US Midwestern company on all of its business development activities from conception through financing, creating marketing alliances and acquiring a major competitor.

Business Formation and Technology/Product Commercialization

BDA assists companies to realize value for their products and inventions.  This often involves identifying other companies that can most effectively develop and market the asset and to complete the license or purchase agreement. In some cases, value creation requires the formation of a new entity to take the technology or product forward.  BDA has extensive experience in the processes required for successful management and funding of these new enterprises.

Fee Structure

There are many options for structuring these projects and the fees paid will reflect the specific option employed.   The contract value might be solely based on per diem fees or may be a combination of per diem fees and success fees, or, if beneficial to the client, the fee structure may include equity participation by BDA to offset costs.

Project Examples

  1. BDA assisted a UK natural crop protection company to establish business activities in North and South America
  2. BDA led the formation of a new entity to develop and market a novel sweetener based on a naturally-occurring plant sweet protein.

 Financing and Raising Capital

Raising Capital

BDA assists companies on their financing strategies and to complete funding.  Every company is unique and the funding options will be determined by the industry, stage and financial condition of the company.  BDA understands what must be done internally to prepare for a successful financing and is able to identify high probability funding options for your business.  We will work with select companies from the beginning of the process through completion of funding.  We are experienced in sourcing funds from strategic investors, venture capitalists, Angels, Private Equity Groups (PEGs), and through private placements. Our fees for this service generally involve service fees and success fees, but the structure and amounts depend on the circumstances.
